Alachua Co., FL - Fatal Three-Car Accident Takes One Life on CR-235

Alachua County, FL (July 24, 2025) — A tragic three-vehicle crash in the early hours of Wednesday morning, July 23, claimed the life of a 34-year-old man from Trenton, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The fatal collision occurred around 2:52 a.m. on County Road 235, just south of County Road 232, between the cities of Newberry and Alachua.

Authorities say the man was traveling southbound in a sedan when the vehicle was involved in a crash with two semi-trucks heading northbound. The sedan first made contact with one truck before a subsequent collision with the second semi resulted in a head-on impact.

The Trenton man was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel. The driver of the first semi, a 75-year-old man from Andersonville, Georgia, was uninjured. The driver of the second truck, also a 75-year-old from Andersonville, sustained minor injuries and was evaluated on-site.

The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Our sincere sympathies go out to all those affected by this heartbreaking incident.

Florida Truck Accidents

Florida’s highways are some of the busiest in the nation, with a constant flow of commercial trucks, commuters, tourists, and local traffic. Unfortunately, that constant activity comes with a sobering reality: fatal semi-truck accidents are on the rise across the state. Each year, hundreds of Floridians lose their lives in crashes involving large commercial vehicles—incidents that often happen in an instant but leave behind a lifetime of grief.

With more than 380,000 traffic collisions reported annually in Florida, the state continues to rank among the top in the nation for both crash volume and trucking-related fatalities. These tragic events are often tied to a combination of dangerous driving conditions, long-haul fatigue, and the sheer size and weight of commercial rigs.

Key risk factors contributing to fatal truck accidents in Florida include:

High-Speed Interchanges and Congested Roadways: Major routes such as I-75, I-10, and Florida’s Turnpike see heavy semi-truck traffic daily. When fast-moving freight meets local traffic, especially in areas with merging lanes or construction, the risk of fatal crashes increases significantly.

Fatigued Driving and Long Hauls: Commercial drivers often log hundreds of miles without proper rest. Fatigue slows reaction times and impairs judgment, making deadly collisions—such as rear-end or rollover crashes—more likely.

Blind Spots and Lane Encroachment: Tractor-trailers have extensive blind zones. When those blind spots aren’t properly checked, smaller vehicles can be struck, crushed, or run off the road with fatal consequences.

Equipment Failures and Overloaded Trucks: Faulty brakes, tire blowouts, and overloaded trailers reduce a truck’s ability to stop or maneuver, especially in emergencies. These mechanical issues often play a role in deadly crashes.

Negligent or Distracted Driving: Whether it’s a truck driver glancing at a phone or a passenger car weaving through traffic, negligence from either party can turn a routine commute into a devastating collision.

Losing a loved one in a semi-truck accident is an unimaginable tragedy—one that comes with emotional heartbreak, financial uncertainty, and complex legal challenges. But you don’t have to face it alone.
