Gainesville, FL – Multi-Car Crash on 39th Ave Injures Four

Gainesville, FL (May 16, 2025) – A serious multi-injury collision on NW 39th Avenue sent four individuals to the hospital Thursday evening, including one adult and one child who were trauma-alerted due to the severity of their injuries.
Gainesville Fire Rescue units were dispatched just after 7 p.m. on May 15 to the 3100 block of NW 39th Avenue following reports of a vehicle crash. When emergency crews arrived at the scene, they discovered one person trapped inside a vehicle, prompting an upgrade to a crash with extrication.
Additional support quickly followed, including Engine 7, Squad 1, District 2, and several units from Alachua County Fire Rescue. Emergency responders worked to free the entrapped individual and assess all those involved.
In total, four patients were transported to nearby medical facilities. Two of them — an adult and a child — were classified as trauma alerts due to the extent of their injuries. Police in Gainesville continue to investigate the incident.
We hope for the full and rapid recovery of the injured victims.
Florida Car Crashes
With its bustling cities and heavily trafficked highways, Florida sees a high volume of injury-causing car accidents each year. In fact, data from the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles shows that hundreds of thousands of crashes annually result in injuries ranging from mild to life-altering. Whether the accident happens on a congested city street or a high-speed interstate, the physical, emotional, and financial toll on victims can be immense.
Several common factors are frequently involved in injury crashes throughout the state:
- Speeding: Excessive speed reduces a driver’s ability to react to sudden changes in traffic and increases the force of impact during a crash — often leading to more severe injuries.
- Distracted Driving: Texting, using GPS, or even eating behind the wheel can cause a driver to miss critical moments on the road, leading to collisions that could have been avoided.
- Following Too Closely: Rear-end collisions caused by tailgating are a top contributor to injury crashes, particularly in high-traffic areas where sudden stops are frequent.
- Unsafe Lane Changes: Drivers who fail to check blind spots or signal properly often sideswipe or cut off other vehicles, leading to serious accidents and injuries.
- Weather Conditions: Florida’s sudden rainstorms can make roads slick and visibility poor, increasing the risk of losing control and causing a crash.
