Florida Car Accidents
Gainesville’s growing population and ever-expanding roadways have led to a steady increase in traffic volume—and unfortunately, in serious car accidents as well. Across Florida, more than 400,000 crashes were reported in 2022, according to the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. Over 250,000 of those crashes resulted in injuries, underscoring how common—and how devastating—these incidents can be.
In Alachua County and Gainesville in particular, a few dangerous driving habits continue to put motorists at risk:
- Tailgating: Following too closely remains a top cause of rear-end collisions, especially during heavy traffic on major roads like Archer Road, University Avenue, and I-75.
- Aggressive Driving: Speeding, unsafe lane changes, and ignoring right-of-way laws often result in high-impact crashes and life-altering injuries.
- Driver Fatigue: Tired or distracted drivers have slower reaction times and impaired judgment, increasing the likelihood of serious wrecks.
- Work Zones: Gainesville’s regular road construction projects can lead to sudden lane changes, confusing detours, and unpredictable driving conditions that contribute to crashes.
