Hawthorne, FL (June 19, 2025) — A fatal crash on U.S. Highway 301 in Alachua County claimed the life of a young driver Thursday morning.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene near Southeast Hawthorne Road around 8:30 a.m., where the collision had taken place.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the driver was a 25-year-old man from St. Petersburg. Authorities confirmed he was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident.

The crash involved the victim’s vehicle and a truck tractor hauling a trailer. The vehicles collided on the northbound side of Southeast U.S. Highway 301.

The Florida Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. The name of the victim has not been released pending notification of the family.
