Hawthorne, FL – Two Hurt in Accident on SR 20

Hawthorne, FL (July 21, 2025) – A violent collision on State Road 20 sent two drivers to the hospital on Friday morning, July 18, leaving one with life‑threatening injuries.
Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) says the crash happened around 7:45 a.m. just west of SE 159th Street. An SUV traveling westbound left the roadway, overturned in the median, and entered the opposite lane, where it struck an oncoming sedan.
The SUV’s driver, a 27‑year‑old woman from Ocala, was ejected during the rollover and is reported to be in critical condition. The sedan’s driver, a 60‑year‑old Hawthorne woman, sustained serious injuries and remains in stable condition.
Troopers closed the area while investigators documented the scene and cleared debris. FHP continues to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
We wish those harmed in this wreck a rapid recovery.
Florida Car Accidents
Florida consistently ranks among the top states for traffic collisions, with more than 380,000 car accidents reported statewide each year. Whether it’s a high-speed crash on I-75 or a rear-end collision on a busy local road, these incidents can leave lasting physical, financial, and emotional consequences for those involved.
Injury-causing accidents are especially common in Florida’s urban areas and growing suburbs, where traffic congestion, road construction, and distracted driving combine to create dangerous conditions for everyday motorists. However, regardless of where or how a crash occurs, the challenges that follow are often overwhelming.
Common Struggles After a Crash:
- Unseen Injuries: Some injuries, like concussions or soft tissue damage, may not be immediately noticeable. But days or weeks later, victims often face ongoing pain, reduced mobility, and the need for long-term treatment.
- Insurance Frustration: Even when injuries are clear, getting fair compensation isn’t guaranteed. Victims often encounter unresponsive adjusters, complex policies, and settlement offers that fail to fully compensate for actual losses.
- Legal Complexity: Florida’s no-fault insurance laws, combined with comparative fault rules, can make it difficult to determine how much compensation you’re truly entitled to. Having someone on your side who understands the law can make all the difference.
- Emotional Trauma: Anxiety, depression, and PTSD are common among crash survivors. These invisible injuries are just as real as physical wounds—and they deserve to be taken seriously.
- Daily Disruption: From missed work and mounting bills to transportation issues and physical limitations, a car accident can throw your life into disarray.
