Chiefland Teen Killed in Crash with Parked Semi on US 19

Levy County, FL (September 5, 2025) – On Tuesday morning, September 2, a 16-year-old Chiefland girl was killed when her sedan collided with a parked tractor-trailer on U.S. Highway 19 near NW 160th Street in Fanning Springs.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), a 56-year-old Tampa man driving a tractor-trailer was parked in the northbound right travel lane. The Chiefland teen, driving northbound, struck the rear of the tractor-trailer for reasons that are still being investigated by law enforcement officials. Emergency responders transported her to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The truck driver was not injured.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances of the crash and have reminded drivers to exercise caution in areas where vehicles may be improperly parked.

We hope the family finds strength during this difficult time. Our deepest condolences go out to them.

Highway Accidents and Safety in Levy County

Collisions with parked or improperly stopped vehicles are a serious risk on Florida highways. Teens and young drivers are particularly vulnerable, and even minor lapses in attention can have deadly consequences.

Common factors contributing to highway accidents include:

  • Improperly parked vehicles: Obstructions in travel lanes reduce reaction time for drivers.
  • Speeding: Excessive speed makes stopping for hazards difficult.
  • Distractions: Phones, navigation systems, and other distractions increase collision risk.
  • Limited visibility: Curves, hills, or weather conditions can obscure hazards.

Accidents on highways can result in severe injuries or fatalities, property damage, and emotional trauma. Florida law requires drivers involved in collisions to provide aid and remain at the scene when injuries or property damage occur.

If you or a loved one is involved in a highway crash, seeking immediate medical attention and understanding legal options is crucial. Consulting with a car accident lawyer can help protect your rights and guide you through insurance and compensation matters.
